Reconnect to the internet, open Netflix’s Downloads section, and download the expired title again if it is still available. You cannot renew a show or movie that has left Netflix. Some titles also have licensing limits on repeat downloads.
Open Netflix’s official expired-download guide ↗On Android, iPhone or iPad
- Open Downloads in the Netflix app.
- Select the expired movie or episode and tap its download-status icon.
- Choose Delete Download, then return to the title and download it again.
On iPhone or iPad, Netflix also recommends checking Settings → General → Date & Time. Correct a wrong date or time, or turn on Set Automatically.
Why won’t it renew?
| What you find | What to do |
|---|---|
| Title is still downloadable | Follow the delete-and-download steps while connected. |
| Title has left Netflix | It cannot be renewed or downloaded again. |
| An error says you cannot download it again | A licensing limit may apply; Netflix advises watching online instead. |
Before a flight or a trip
Check the exact episodes you want while you still have a connection. Leave enough time to finish a replacement download, and stay signed in: Netflix requires that to access downloads offline. Downloads belong to the device used to save them, so a download on your phone is not automatically on your tablet.
Netflix confirms that downloads expire, but its help page does not give one universal lifetime for every title. Avoid planning around a blanket “30 days” or “48 hours” promise.
Missing the download option entirely?
That is a different problem from an expired file. Use Netflix’s supported-device and offline-download guide, or its download troubleshooting page, before repeatedly deleting content.
