Your friends don’t each need to buy a copy.

Jackbox’s setup guide says one person owns and hosts the game. Everyone joins through jackbox.tv using the room code and their phones as controllers. Party Pack 12 launches October 15, 2026, at an announced price of $29.99.

The bigger buying question is your group size. The pack contains five games, but “2–8 players” does not mean every game starts with two people. Here’s the difference that matters before you invite everyone over.

How many players does each game need?

Party Pack 12 · Official individual game listings
GamePlayersWhat you do
Idol Factions2–8Sort trivia answers in teams.
Debate and Switch2–8Argue silly opinions and persuade the group.
We Forgot a Card3–8Write and design ridiculous greeting cards.
MegaPals3–8Match words and get inside your friends’ heads.
Hyperface3–8Warp photos to answer odd prompts.

For three to eight people, all five listed player ranges fit your group. With two, only Idol Factions and Debate and Switch list a two-player minimum. That is a narrower selection, so don’t buy it expecting all five games to work for a couple.

These are player slots, not a promise that every game feels equally good with every group. Counts come from the individual official pages linked in the table; this is a researched buying guide, not a hands-on review.

What do you actually need to play?

  1. One host: buy and install the pack on a supported device.
  2. A shared view: everyone needs to see the host’s game screen.
  3. Phones for the players: open jackbox.tv and enter the lobby code.
  4. A game that fits your group: use the minimum player count above before starting.

Phones are the controllers; they don’t replace the device running the purchased pack. That distinction is useful if you’re thinking of buying it just before friends arrive. Jackbox’s official setup instructions.

Can friends join from different homes?

Yes, with screen sharing. Jackbox recommends services such as Discord or Zoom for remote play. Share the host’s game screen, then have everyone join the room through jackbox.tv.

A room code alone is not the whole setup: friends also need the host’s screen. Before starting, check that they can see it and hear the game. That quick check is easier than discovering a muted stream halfway through a round.

When is it out, and which platforms are announced?

Jackbox’s October 1 announcement gives October 15, 2026 as the launch date and $29.99 as the announced price. It lists PC through Steam and Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Apple TV, iPad and the Mac App Store. Official release, price and platform announcement.

Use the store for the device that will host your game. Regional checkout prices can differ from the announced dollar price. The announcement does not provide an exact launch hour, so we haven’t added one.

Which game should your group start with?

For a group that enjoys trivia, start by looking at Idol Factions. For friends who like making up jokes, We Forgot a Card is the writing-focused option. If everyone is comfortable taking turns speaking, Debate and Switch is the argument-based choice.

Those are suggestions based on the published game descriptions, not a ranking from playtesting. Watch the official gameplay trailer to see whether the activities suit your group before buying.

Count the people, pick the host device, and choose one game to try first. You can make those decisions before game night without buying a separate copy for every guest.
